Types of Craps Bets
When playing craps, there are a variety of bets that you can make. Specific bets have certain payouts and house edges, so it is essential to understand the different types of bets before playing.
Pass Line Bet
One of the most popular bets in craps is the Pass Line bet. Before any dice are rolled, players place their chips on the pass line area of the craps table. In this bet, players wager that either a 7 or 11 will be rolled on the come-out roll. If a 7 or 11 is rolled, players who wagered on the Pass Line win even money.
If any other number is rolled, it becomes the point, and a marker will be placed above or below it. Players must then roll the dice again until either the point is made (which results in a win for Pass Line bettors) or a seven is rolled (which causes them to lose).
Don’t Pass Line Bet
The Don’t Pass Line Bet is a great place to start when learning how to play craps. It’s the most straightforward bet and usually gives you an even money payoff. To make this bet, put your chips in the area of the table marked “Don’t Pass Line.” When the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you lose. But if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3, you win. A 12 is considered a tie; your bet will stay in place for another dice roll.
Come Bets
Come bets are similar to pass-line bets, but the difference is that you make a come bet after the point has been established. Place your chips in the ” COME ” area on the craps table to make a come bet. You will then be given two dice, and it is up to you to roll them while betting on the numbers 3 and 12. If you hit a 7 or 11, you win even money on your come bet (1:1).
However, you lose the bet if a 2,3, or 12 is rolled. Any other number will become the point for your come bet. The dealer then places an “ON” button on top of your bet, and you can now make an odds bet in addition to the come bet. The odds bet pays out 2:1 if a four is rolled, 3:2 if a five is rolled, 6:5 if a 6 or 8 is rolled, and even money (1:1) on all other numbers. It will give you a great chance of winning on each come bet.
Don’t Come Bets
This type of bet pays off even money and is essentially the opposite of the Come Bet, where you win if a 7 or 11 is rolled on the first throw after you place it and lose if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. With Don’t Come Bets, you win if a 2 or 3 is rolled and lose if a 7 or 11 is rolled.
Don’t Come Bets tend to be particularly popular among more experienced players, as they allow the player to take advantage of the situation and shape their bets according to how the dice are rolling.
Odds Bets
Players can make an additional bet on the Pass Line after establishing a point. This side wager, also known as an “odds bet,” pays true odds based on the probability of any given number being rolled. Players place their Odds bets behind their Pass Line bets, and they win if the point is rolled before a 7. The payouts for an Odds bet vary depending on the roll number and range from 2:1 to as much as 10:1.
Place Bets
Place bets, or “True Odds Bets, ” are essential to the Craps strategy. Place Bets can be made after a Point has been established and is life on the shooter’s next roll. The most common Place Bet numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10. To place one of these bets, you place chips in the Place area of the table.
Field Bets
Field bets are another popular option when playing craps at a casino. With field bets, players can choose to bet on any “field” of numbers in the layout, and if their number is rolled before a seven appears, they win even money (1:1). The house advantage for this type of wager is 5.5%.
Players must place the chips on the layout in the box marked “Field” when placing a field bet. They should be placed between the 2 and 12 fields to cover all possible numbers. All of the other numbers are covered when making this kind of bet. The payout is usually marked with an X or a 4X, depending on the casino.
Proposition Bets
Proposition bets, or one-roll or hardways bets, are some of the most exciting wagers in craps. These single-roll bets can be made on any thrown dice and may pay out various amounts depending on how the dice land. Proposition bets typically offer some of the highest payouts in the casino game and can help beginners learn how to play craps.
The most common proposition bets are ‘any seven,’ hi-lo (also known as ‘yo eleven’), craps, Horns, hardways, and field bets. Any seven is one of the most straightforward propositions, requiring the player to guess whether a seven will be rolled.
Hi-lo is an exciting bet that pays out if a two or twelve is thrown, while any craps bets on the outcome of a three, two, or twelve. Horns are wagers placed on one specific number – four, five, six, eight, nine, or ten – that pays out if the dice land on that number.
Hardaways Bets
Hardaway bets are a type of bet in craps that are very popular with experienced players. A Hardaway bet is essentially two bets placed simultaneously on either the 4 or 10, 6 or 8 and 5 or 9. All three numbers must be hit for the player to win their wager. The advantage of this kind of wagering is that the player has a better chance to win than just betting on one number.
To make a Hardaway bet, the player must place two bets together: one on the 4 or 10 and another on 6 or 8 and 5 or 9. The odds for this kind of bet are 7:1 for the 4 or 10, 9:5 for the 6 or 8, and 7:5 for the 5 or 9. The house edge is lower than most other bets in craps, so it can be a good bet if you are looking for an edge over the house.
Hop Bets
Hop bets are a great way to add extra interest in the craps game. A hop bet is a one-roll bet before any dice roll. With a hop bet, you predict which numbers will be rolled on the next dice combination.
Hop bets have different payouts than others, so knowing the payouts is essential. Betting on a single number pays 30-1, while betting on any two numbers pays 15-1. Winning hop bets are paid according to true odds as opposed to the table’s usual even money payoff.
